Greetings to all the Community members.
I have installed the compatibility Pack in addition of the "MS Office 2000 greek Pro" in order to be able to open, edit and save files using the new file formats of Power Point 2007.
I have also installed the Power Point 2003 to view files saved in these new formats.
Nevertheless I am still unable to do so. :!: :?
Any kind of help and assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Andre

We'll need much more info to be able to assist you.

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7 RC; Win7 RTM) when posting in a forum or newsgroup. Please do so in your next reply.

Is the computer fully-patched at Microsoft Update and is MS Office Compatibility Pack SP1 installed?

Have you purchased and installed PowerPoint 2003 (or Office 2003) or are you referring to PowerPoint Viewer 2003?

What happens when you try to "open, edit [or] save" a PowerPoint file? Are you referring to PowerPoint attachments?

Reply: NO. I was referring to PowerPoint Viewer 2003.

Reply: I am referring to PPS Power point presentations...When I am trying to open them a statement pops up telling me that power point cannot read this file.

Hope I was sufficiently informative.

1. Uninstall PowerPoint Viewer 2003 via Add/Remove Programs & reboot.

2. Download/install PowerPoint Viewer 2007 & reboot: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=048dc840-14e1-467d-8dca-19d2a8fd7485

3. Go to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate & select a CUSTOM scan | Install PowerPoint Viewer 2007 Service Pack 1 only!

4. Return to to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate & select a CUSTOM scan | Install any critical security updates offered; Follow all prompts.

5. Does the behavior persist now?

================================================================================

:hand: Computers running WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered any further critical security updates, Automatic Updates will cease to function, and Windows Update website will not be available after 12 April 2010 until SP3 is installed.

Before I execute your recommendations I would like to stress out this:

Quote:

Reply: YES. My PC is fully patched with all MS Updates and Both SP1 and SP2 MS Office Compatibility packs are installed

Should I unistall MS Office Compatibility SP2 or leave it as is, before I proceed.
Thanks.

No, I made no mention of uninstalling Office Compatibility Pack (SP2 or otherwise).

Unfortunately the problem continues to persist after I have implemented all your instructions very carefully.
I have made a reboot before the final test but still no luck.

Frankly speeking because I am not sure if the pps presentation that I want to open is facing a compatibility problem or it is corrupted, can you send me a pps presentationof which you are sure it is created by a MS Power Point 2007 version , so that I can test my new set-up.
Thanks a lot.
Andre

Press ENTER to progress through the slides. Press ESC to close the PPS file.

Have downloaded/installed and succesfully opened your PPT file. Hence my Power Point Viewer 2007 works fine.
Only a few minutes ago I have discovered that the PPS file which was not able to open, was password protected & read only, now I will try to edit it thru my PPoint programme and open it as read only.
I will keep you posted.
Thanks a lot for your support and I apologize for the confusion.
Regards,
Andre

Unfortunately my PPoint programme did not give me the choice to open for read only.
It refused to edit. Therefore I am at dead end.

If it's a password-protected file, you'll need the password to open it whether it's marked Read Only or not.

At a second try I found the following restriction:[CVX_WARNING: MESSAGE ENCRYPTED]
A quick search brought me to the following link:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fileexten ... vxfile.htm

Please note that all my friends who had MS Office 2007 with PP2007 installed were able to open and read this PPS but unable to edit it. What I did not investigate is if they had updated there OS with SP3 service pack, because I have only SP2.

I am therefore quoting below some excerpts from the article of this link.

How to Open an CVX File:
The easiest way to open a CVX file is to double-click on it and let your PC decide which default application should open the file. If no program opens the CVX file then you probably don't have an application installed that can view and/or edit CVX files.

A file with the CVX file extension is a Canvas Versions 6, 7, 8, 9 Graphic file

Still Having Problems Opening or Using a CVX File?
Let a community of computer support enthusiasts help out! Post in the PC Support Forum about what kinds of problems you're having with opening or using the CVX file and we'll see what we can do to help.

2 seconds of Googling yields...
Quote:
Windows XP supports file encryption through EFS, the Encrypting File System. You can encrypt files with EFS so that only you and designated users can open them. You open files that you encrypted just as you would any other files. However, you cannot open files that another user encrypted with EFS, and other users cannot open files that you encrypted, unless the user trying to open the file has been added to the list of authorized users for that file.
