[ ~KB. comment to note previously abandoned thread should it be helpful in diagnosing the current issuse => http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=43117]

Hi I am having trouble connecting to my own wireless router. Each time I try it says acquiring network connection. I have not been able to connect to my own isp in a couple of weeks on my own laptop via a wireless connection. But am able to on another laptop without any trouble. So I have been using my neighbors wifi to connect to the internet with my laptop.

Before my wireless connection went completely unavailable to me, the only thing that would work to get me back online would be to disable the wireless connection and then re-enable it via Network connections. It worked for a short time until I started getting the BSOD with the error "driver corrupt mmpool"

Any ideas on how I can fix this issue?

Thank you

Let's see if fixing your network connection helps. Otherwise we may be having you start a new thread in the malware removal sub-forum.

Fix the network connection
1. Go to Start, Control Panel

2. Select Network and Internet Connections or Network Connections, depending on what view you are using.

3. Right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties Click the Networking (or General) tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says :

    Obtain DNS servers automatically

4. Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks. That option might not be avaiable on some systems.

5. Go to Start, Run type cmd and hit OK.
    At the prompt type :

ipconfig /flushdns (that space between g and / is needed) then hit enter

    Type exit, then hit enter

Post back with results, please.

Good Luck :!:

I apologize for not being here earlier

Keriann, please specify your router brand model (i.e. Linksys, DLink, etc).

Also, are you presented with multiple wireless access points besides your own and your neighbors when you fire up your wireless connection?

Note to KB: the dns cache is only good for about 4-6 minutes

Have you read Keri's other thread, Mike?

Huh, is this a friend of yours, Mike? There's more going on than your last question indicates you realize.

I'd like to know how keriann1973's connection works after performing what I requested.

Why do you say that Mike?

The time a record spends in the DNS cache is normally controlled by MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit in the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters key whose is normal default value of TTL is 86400 seconds or 1 day. Records in the cache are kept for their TTL, then re-queried. This might different for Win 7.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 59517.aspx

You might be thinking of SOA records which have a TTL of 300 seconds controlled by MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit: http://www.nsaneforums.com/topic/36942- ... r-windows/

Running IPConfig /displayDNS in a command prompt will tell you the status of the TTL for each record.

I did as KB instructed. My "Obtain DNS servers automatically" was already selected so I did not need to make any changes there. After typing the prompt in the cmd. I was able to log on to my wireless router without any problems, but that was short lived. It only worked for a few hours. After a reboot of my laptop, I had the same problem trying to connect to my wireless router as well as the one other neighbors wireless router that is in range. Now I am back to connecting only to my neighbors router, after I disable, then re-enable the network device.

My router is a NetgearWGR614 v7

Should any of the hardware/network gurus have advice regarding this thread, please continue to post away.

If not, I do believe it may be time for a malware check so please point Keri to the instruction page.

Thanks.

Is this machine now clear of malware?

Just to understand this. Are you saying that you can connect fine to your neighbor's wireless network but not to your own router?

Can you do connect to your router if all the other machines are turned off?

I've ran avast, and malwarebytes...nothing seems to be detected by them.

I can get onto my neighbors wifi and now sometimes my own router. Both are very limited to a short duration of time. If I close my laptop, or walk away for an extended amount of time and return, I will have to disable, then re-enable the network connection to get back onto the internet. Even with my desktop pc shut off I still have problems connecting to my router.

You mean you have the same type of connectivity problems with your neighbors connection as well as yours?

Let's do something simple. Delete the wireless network connection, reboot and make a new one. See how that performs.

Manny, just thinking out loud....I wonder if Power Management on the network (wireless) adapter is involved ("Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power").

Could be Glen that the wireless adapter doesn't turn itself back on. That could be easily checked in Device Manager.

Mine is checked the same way on my laptop and that doesn't happen but who knows. It's certainly worth checking and seeing the status of the adapter when this happens.

[More information about the BSOD Stop Code would doubtless help?]

There is also a wealth of information on the Netgear website specific to Keri's Router; Firmware Updates, Knowledgebase articles, Forum Topics etc...

You might be on the right track regarding the need to update the driver or firmware, based on the Stop Error, Doddie.
