Backup drive full in Win7. A friends win7 HP laptop backup restore point drive was full. I'm still on vista. Took me a lot of playing around but got to a panel under disk cleanup that removed some of the data. But then via a HP user friendly type access, I got a panel that showed restore points by date and I was able to remove some time periods. It seems that there must be a clearer way to manage this function. Anyone know how to do that? TIA

 You'll find a big clue in the How long are restore points saved? section on this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/System-Restore-frequently-asked-questions

Tip: Disable System Restore's monitoring of the external drive.

Bonus Tip: When in doubt, search Win7 (online) Help => http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help

Thanks for responding but Unbelievable ! Even after reading just about all the links - there was no DIRECT pointer to the management of the restore points.

Win 7 is just enuf different to be aggravating sometiimes. I had go back to her PC.

Got pointed to System protection function - but you'd think MS would be clear on what is does instead of a bunch of what if faq questions. But seemed more than appropriate than restore.

1. She's not using an external drive, so why is that a tip?
2. The backup space that was causing the 'running out of space' on drive K: is a internal partition drive.

So it looks like in >Control panel>system & security>backup and restore is where there are links to manage space / set backup drive which is used for the system backup and restore points.

You can also delete all but the most recent restore point, as well as temp and other possibly unneeded files, from Start> Programs> Accessories> System tools> Disk cleanup.

GIGO, I suppose.

Since you told us "Backup drive full" in your first post and since as most people use external drives for their back ups [IMHO] and since you didn't say it wasn't an external drive, I simply presumed it was.
