IE6 will occasionally refuse to close & I have to restart the PC to get IE6 to close. I am using Windows XP w/SP3 & am very satisfied with them except for this recent development of not closing when multiply windows are open and being used. Is there a solution to this besides installing IE8 (?) and if so can someone please assist me with it. Thank you. Respectfully. Carl

Is AVG Free v8.5, Ad-Aware & ZoneAlarm still installed?

Since this computer's been in your possession, have you ever had occasion to do a Repair Install of Windows for some reason?

Did you purchase this computer brand-new or is it a used/previously-owned computer?

Hi again sir. Yes this is the same computer. AVG 9.0 is installed now. Ad-Aware is installed, however, there is an update available which I have not yet done. Zone Alarm version:9.2.057.000 is installed. I bought the PC new and no repair Install of Windows has been done that I recall. Thank you for your reply. Carl

Are you referring to an Ad-Aware definitions update, an Ad-Aware version upgrade, or a Windows Update here?

Assuming it's ZoneAlarm Free, does the behavior persist if you uninstall ZoneAlarm AND THEN enable the Windows Firewall?

Is the computer fully-patched at Windows Update? Can you open IE6 to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and run a CUSTOM scan?

NOTE: If any critical security updates (only; e.g., KB982381, KB979559) are offered, install them, but do not install IE8 at this point (if it's offered).
